In 2023, the 26-year-old Sandiganbayan Centennial Building in Quezon City underwent a structural integrity assessment and retrofit design in partnership with the UP Building Research Service. Engineering preliminary site visits, inspection, and structural evaluation were carried out to determine the current structural condition and safety of the building. The current structure houses around 600 staff members and Justices, in addition to the daily public visits and transactions; hence, the need for the assessment.
The evaluation of the structural integrity of the building involved both non-destructive and destructive testing. Specifically, rebar scanning, rebound hammer test, concrete core extraction, and concrete core compression test were conducted at the project site to verify the material properties and parameters in the previous structural integrity reports of the building.

Concrete Core Extraction at the Site
Three-dimensional structural analysis and modeling were performed to reassess the Sandiganbayan Centennial Building, accounting for the new engineering findings and upgraded requirements of the Sandiganbayan. With all these considerations and findings, the UP BRS also developed appropriate retrofitting schemes and designs to further the building’s structural stability.
